Weekend Recap, Summer Camps, and Practice This Week

Hope everyone managed to stay cool this weekend!  Congratulations to our Great White Sharks who competed for the Needham ⅚ team in today’s FGLL Jamboree at Fort Devens:  Nichole, Hannah, Grace, Lily, Kate Sullivan, Stella, and Elle.  They were absolute warriors in the heat and did an excellent job putting their catching, throwing, rides, defensive slides, and double teams on display.  It was a great morning of lacrosse competition (and Gatorade guzzling).  A special thanks to all the parents who braved the early morning drive and the beating sun.

We’ll spend this week continuing to work on the fundamentals, our midfield transitions, offensive picks, and our defensive slides.  Practices remain the same. As a reminder, there is NO game this Sunday due to Memorial Day Weekend.  We have just two games left in the season - on June 5 and June 12.

Practice Times

Tuesday:  6:00-7:30PM @ Brock Field

Thursday:  7:30-8:50PM @ Brock Field

Finally, a few of you have inquired about lacrosse summer camp opportunities.  There are a few good camps in the area happening in June and July:

1. NGYL runs a 2 day clinic in June, usually on the 2 days following the end of school.  More information should be coming out shortly.

2. The club program, Laxachusetts, runs a series of local lax camps for girls in July

3. Central Lacrosse runs great clinics in July

3. Pro Lacrosse Camps has a 2 day camo in Waltham in July

See you on Tuesday!

Sunday Game Recap and Practices This Week
by posted 05/17/2022

Hi All,

What a great team effort on Sunday in the heat!  It was so exciting to watch the girls put together all the different dimensions of the game on which we have been working at practice - from draw controls, to ground ball pickups, to defensive double teams, great saves in goal, offensive cuts, and fast break scoring.  What was most inspiring to all of us was just how well they worked as a unit on the field.  We heard girls encouraging and congratulating each other, saw them support each other on the midfield rides, and watched them hustle to recapture the ball on missed throws.   That kind of teamwork is fundamental to success in this game and earned them a very nice win.   And thank you to all the families who came out to cheer us on - it clearly inspired the girls!

We’ll spend this week continuing to work on the fundamentals, our midfield transitions, our fast break offense, and our defensive slides.  Practices remain the same.

Finally, there may still be a few open spots for the Jamboree this Sunday.  Girls in our grade level can sign up for the morning or afternoon team.  Each team will play three 30-minute games.
